Celebrating Earth Day: Our Power, Our Planet™ on its 55th Anniversary

Earth Day, an annual event dedicated to environmental protection, is today—Tuesday, April 22, 2025and marks its 55th anniversary. What began as a national movement in the United States in 1970 has blossomed globally. Earth Day is coordinated by earthday.org, which unites over a billion individuals across more than 192 countries.

This year’s Earth Day theme is Our Power, Our Planet.Earth Day has been marked by a wide variety of activities, from impactful rallies and educational teach-ins to essential clean-up initiatives and widespread awareness campaigns.

To help you celebrate Earth Day this year within your community, at home, at work, and at school, resources such as quizzes, fact sheets, articles, and more are available.

According to earthday.org, “grassroots people-power” is the heart of Earth Day.

“As we approach this milestone, we celebrate a transformative reality,” the website says, and states that the technologies needed to create inexpensive, clean, and unlimited energy is within our reach.

“This Earth Day 2025, let us commit to harnessing renewable energy to build a healthy, sustainable, equitable and prosperous future for all.”
